Cymanfa Ganu 2024

The Yorkshire and the North-East annual Welsh Hymn-Singing Festival, the Cymanfa Ganu, will be held at the Wesley Centre in Harrogate on Saturday 11th May between 2pm and 4pm (followed by refreshments).

The festival was imported from Wales by Welsh workers in the iron, steel and coal industries in Carlton near Barnsley in 1903, and subsequently travelled round the scattering of Welsh congregations worshipping throughout Yorkshire and the North East of England.

The afternoon is in the form of a Welsh service, with anecdotes from Wales, bilingual prayers and readings.

The festival is open to all those who care to come along, members of your own church will also be most welcome to enjoy, and maybe join in the singing of Welsh hymns, some of which will be in English.
